Fairy Paradise

Resin, glitter, dirt, slime. 2018.

Reminiscent of 1980’s and 90’s plastic toys marketed to young girls, Fairy Paradise takes that nostalgia and mutates it into a simultaneously organic and synthetic, nauseating glitter-swamp. This is not your everyday fairy garden, instead of cute little trinkets and houses, this swamp is crawling with colorful resin-cast mushrooms, dirt, slime, and other fungi. Decomposition juxtaposed with fantasy, glamour, and sickly-sweetness; this is the place where little girls both find their insecurities growing and learn to cope with them. Fairy Paradise allows the viewer to step into the frame-of-mind of the awkward, quintessential young girl just trying to escape from the dark, mucky things bubbling inside them from the expectations of the world around them.
